Growing up

Young woman combing her hairAs we grow up our bodies will change and become adult. This happens to us all and there isn’t a right or wrong way for it to occur. These changes can start from as early as the age of nine or ten and will last anything from one year to six years. Some of the changes will be physical, and others will be mental or emotional. This can be an incredibly stressful time for some people, and it gets trickier when the physical and emotional changes aren’t in time with each other.

The way we think we look, and the way we think others perceive us, is our body image. Being happy and at ease with the way we look is a healthy body image. There are a number of factors that influence our body image, and many of these come from the media and from society. Sometimes these influences can be unrealistic and can have a negative impact on our body image, making us think that we are worth less than we are. This unhealthy body image can leave a lasting impression on our self-esteem and our mental health.
