Isolation can occur after the death of loved ones, retirement, or relationship breakdown, separation or divorce. Your children moving away, physical disability or a reduced capacity to do things you once enjoyed can contribute to feelings of isolation or loneliness and can be very distressing.
To reduce these feelings get in touch with old friends or work colleagues, join a social or support group in your area, look after yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help.
It is not uncommon to experience fear of being alone in your home or of venturing out into the community. If this is a problem for you, there are a range of support services available to assist you.
