Bereavement and loss

Eventually we all experience the death of someone close to us, and it is a more common experience as we age.

This means that we are likely to experience the death of parents and other family members, and of friends and colleagues, more as an adult than as a younger person.

Loss isn’t just about death of a loved one, it can also be the loss of social status through retirement, the loss of physical capabilities through deterioration of general health or it could be the loss of a pet. All these losses can be traumatic times and can affect our mental health in the same way as bereavement of a loved one.
