Women

Over time the role of women in society has changed and this can sometimes be confusing and seem to be a bit of a juggling act. Many women still have the traditional roles of daughter, wife, mother or carer and manage the home and family. These roles can sometimes conflict with the demands of study, a career, managing a social life, friends and personal time all of which can influence our mental health.

WomenHealth issues women experience are not just about reproductive health. There is pressure on women to measure up to what society views as beautiful, often this view is not achievable for most women. And when we don’t measure up to this ideal we sometimes feel dissatisfied with our bodies, which can affect our body image and can influence our mental health.

When women experience menopause, a wide range of feelings, from anxiety and distress, to relief and liberation can occur. With any change there is a period of adjustment which for most people is a smooth transition. There are a number of ways to help cope with these changes. By being aware of what may occur over time we are able to prepare ourselves and protect our health and wellbeing.
